Although it has been a quiet hurricane season, it’s always good to be prepared. Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast last October, and hurricane season technically lasts until November 30. And even then, it’s still best to then be prepared for blizzard season!
The Red Cross advises seniors who live alone to ensure they have a network of friends, family, and/or neighbors who will check on them before, during, and after a major weather event or emergency. At Coastline, when we are aware of a coming storm, we reach out to our consumers to ensure they are prepared, but it is always best to be proactive and prepared.
The Red Cross also has a great Disaster Preparedness Guide by Seniors for Seniors that can help you think through all of the things you should prepare now so you are ready for any emergency that may come up. Along with a checklist of supplies you should have in place, this guide helps you create a plan, list local resources, and think through other unique scenarios, including how to handle your pets in an emergency.
As always, it is best to take the time to plan ahead and assemble everything you need so you are ready for any emergency. And you can always call Coastline with any questions regarding local resources for you or a loved one.
