The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a paid job-training program that provides a bridge to employment for mature workers. Partner community service agencies provide supportive, real work settings that help mature workers transition into employment. The program covers the costs of training by paying a state minimum wage stipend to the trainee.

Janice Harris has been a participant in the Senior Employment Program here at Coastline for the past 2 years. She assists in creating and updating resumes and providing job clubs for incoming trainees.
After working for over 20 years at a local Career Center teaching job seekers how to stand out from the competition, I found myself once again, coping with job loss after my agency experienced budget cuts.
I remembered utilizing Senior Trainees at the Career Center and they were so helpful to the job seekers and staff. Since Unemployment Insurance was almost depleted, I called to see if I was eligible for the program. I am now helping other seniors learn new job search skills for today’s competitive job market and realize how many valuable traits they are offering to employers.

Training sites are partnered community service agencies.
Mature workers do much of their training through meaningful positions with community service agencies. These nonprofit and government service agencies are dedicated to providing training to build real-world skills while the work provided by the trainee directly benefits the community.

Senior Service America is one of 18 nonprofit organizations awarded grants by the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration (DOLETA) and is the largest federally-funded program for older adults who seek civic engagement plus employment and training assistance.
