The Health Insurance Counseling Program ensures that Massachusetts elders have access to accurate information regarding their health benefits. Through the program, a Health Insurance counselor assists elders in understanding their health insurance needs. They review present coverage to prevent elders from paying for unnecessary or duplicate coverage. They also help elders process health benefit claims. Health Insurance Counselors inform elders of their rights under Medicare. When appropriate they also makes referrals to various agencies. In addition, a Health Insurance Counselor provides Mass Health screening and assistance with applications when needed. Health Insurance Counselors receive extensive training in many areas of health benefits. Health Insurance Counseling is available to the Elder Community and Long Term Care, as well as to homebound and handicapped elders. Health Insurance Counseling is confidential and free of charge.
